May is Peace Officer’s Memorial Month. We normally have a full in-person ceremony in Ventura to honor all of the peace officers in Ventura County who have been taken from us in the line of duty. This year, once again, we created this video as a “virtual memorial” due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On February 19, 2019, a Sun Air employee was filling a 3,000 gallon mobile refueler truck containing jet A-1 fuel. A refueler overfill protection device malfunctioned, resulting in a significant amount of jet fuel being released into the environment.
